I´m a student trying to get my own web design company off the ground and I´m finding the task of backlinking very daunting. I have spent weeks now following all of the best back linking advise and as far as I know I don´t have any. Is there truly any way to get free quality backlinks? Any suggestions as to how I can build up free backlinks?

Nice list. Hopefully more designers than programmers are reading it. In my experience, it´s usually the web designers that resist and oppose usability centered ideas. They seek to glorify the site appearance, setting aside the user experience. When you have time you should add some AJAX based design tips and woes. :)
