It really depends on what SEO software you are talking about. If it is creating links for you then no it won´t help. If it is creating the pages for you with little or no creative content of your own, then no it won´t help. If it merely informs you about the things that you could do to improve (i.e. tells you how many links you have, what pages have broken links, which pages have the most link juice, etc) then yes that will help. Any time you expect an "automated" system to rank you high, the search engines will catch on and probably shut down the problem.

Yeah, google webmastertools does have the option to show how many backlinks your site has. But is it accurate by 100?

Google backlink checker is manipulative , I got no backlink at all, when I check my blog with "link:"

Actually how many backlinks has to be created to get seen by the google and yahoo, and how does the yahoo can see my backlinks, if i create backlink whether both the google and yahoo will see my backlink or only google.

my count says 13 still and i´ve been bookmarking my site for a hundred times already.

@hotel Google only checks those links that have enough pagerank to "count".

I´ve recently heard that Yahoo will be shutting down Yahoo Site Explorer. This comes off the wake of outsourcing it´s search results to Bing.

Is completely true that yahoo is a great engine for checking your backlinks / InLinks (and a little more) as it seems more accurate than others when it comes to Inlinks.anyway I used to do the queries manualy untill i found this free tool: http://ministatus.com which also alows one to download the results in pdf file and also generates the free badge price for each and every queried websites.

Backlinks are an the most important factor when it comes to ranking terms, i use to check my backlinks via http://ministatus.com , an online tool that checks for backlinks and indexed pages all at the same time (ofcourse it does it only for most popular search engines). It is possible however to do a manual check of all these values but it is just too boring.

All Backlink checkers are inaccurate until the links have been re-indexed by Google.

That is incorrect. Yahoo doesn´t use Google for their numbers. Opensiteexplorer doesn´t use Google for their numbers. Because Google´s spider runs differently now, their index is constantly being updated. Webmaster tool´s will show different numbers on almost a weekly basis.

It seems Yahoo site explorer is not as accurate as it used to be. I noticed the backlinks to my site have dropped by the thousands to a measly few hundred. But when i check with another tool it shows thosands of backlinks.

Thank you for the post. The information is so vital for online success. Sometimes it´s the NOT knowing that is our downfall.

I read on Matt Cutts´ blog if I´m not mistaken, that Google deliberately does not disclose an accurate count of backlinks due to many webmasters suffering of what was referred to as BO (Backlink Obsession).

I find Yahoo Site Explorer to be the most accurate link checker around. Open Site Explorer is also great, but due to the fact that they only update once a month, there are still some links that they do not report which Yahoo already picked up on.

So I would put Yahoo Site Explorer number one on my list and Open Site Explorer at number 2.

No wonder I see 0 on google and 5,000 BL on yahoo. I almost thought I was banned by google

Only the link: modifier is inaccurate. The Google Webmaster tools is quite accurate. Unfortunately Yahoo Site Explorer will be going the way of the world and will be superseded by Bing Webmaster Toolbox.

I do not believe it possible to get an accurate list of backlinks from anywhere. I have tried may options but when I check manually, backlinks are often live even though they are not shown on reports.

While a perfect "backlink" counter is practically impossible. What is important is what Google "sees" as backlinks. If Google and Bing can´t find the backlink or doesn´t count it, does that link really matter? From a search engine optimization standpoint, the answer is no.

Getting an accurate Back link count can prove quite difficult. Yahoo site explorer has bit the dust, so now people are left with a mix of free(Sometimes limited access) and paid tools.

Remember that many of the backlink checking tools were using the Yahoo site Explorer data for their results. Therefore, they will not work anymore, unless they have changed over to another source.

Here are some free ones.

Backlink watch(This too is very popular though I am not sure of the accuracy).

Backlink Checker (Last time I tried this one it was not working)

Link popularity. You can compare your different pages links.

Majestic SEO. Need to sign up. This is the same Tool used by Market Samurai.

Seo Book. Offers free and paid services.

Link assistant. free(Limited results) and paid. You download the suite of four modules onto your PC(Can be slow.)

And there are many, many more.

Yahoo Site explorer is merged with Bing now, you can update the info. Goolge webmaster Tools show the Backlinks but not all links.
